StayQrious: Making Kids Happy & Independent Learners

CIO Vendor Like ushering waves of renaissances, the recent NEP draft submitted by the HRD ministry aims at long overdue reforming of the education system in India – ensuring the holistic development of a student. The policy proposes to set up more virtual labs and equip schools digitally. Besides, it recommends pilot studies for online education and encourages the use of e-learning platforms. Giving a deeper understanding of the state of e-learning in India, Aanand Srinivas, Founder of StayQrious says, “Education today is similar to how medicine was 200 years ago.

Until the 19th century, doctors did not systematically analyse a patient's symptoms and diagnosis to provide reliable cures. Medicine was revolutionized in the 19th century due to rapid advancements in the fields of chemistry and lab technology. In the 21st century, with the recent rapid advancements in cognitive science and computing technology, education is finally ready for a similar revolution”.

The eLearning segment is an ocean, with many subcategories, including K-12, test prep, and professional skill development.

Headquartered in Bengaluru, Aanand’s StayQrious platform is part of the K-12 segment focusing on STEM foundations and skill-sets for future jobs that schools are not touching upon currently. This eLearning platform is developing the classroom of the future that follows a very different approach to teaching and learning compared to the current system. The classrooms of the future are more collaborative, non-judgmental and supportive, headed by learning coaches who focus more on the holistic development of the child.

Aanand personally feels that the traditional spoon-fed type of education needs to change in India, and the educators need to think out-of-the-box. “Our purpose is to catalyse this revolution by designing the 'classroom of
the future' from first principles of cognitive science and using technology to scale it to billions of students”, adds Aanand.

From ‘Learn to Code’ to ‘Code to Learn’
StayQrious starts with a STEM foundations course that focuses on coding fundamentals in the first year with Science & Math related live projects and activities based group projects. After the first year, students will then be required to use coding to learn the most critical science and Math concepts. So the approach followed here is ‘learn to code and then code to learn’.

While the child is at this, StayQrious’ innovative classrooms of the future and the respective learning coaches focus on more holistic development of the kid by developing skill sets like confidence, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. StayQrious also has a shorter 4 month-long coding fundamentals course to give the kids and parents a teaser of this futuristic classroom. Unlike any other learning platform, StayQrious teaches STEM through coding. As a result of this approach, a kid will neither forget coding nor STEM foundations.

Aanand was the first content creator at BYJU’S where the set of educational videos he authored laid the path to BYJU’S trajectory to become the world's largest ed-tech company. As their content head, Aanand set the company’s vision to focus on the joy of learning and evangelized this vision to investors and customers. If one searches Quora, even today, Aanand is the most loved teacher on the platform.

Accompanied by 2 other fellow BYJU’s employees, Avinash Anand, and Shankar Ram, Aanand breathed life into this vision of delivering value learning and co-founded StayQrious. Though a fresh entrant in this space, StayQrious has already demonstrated phenomenal response amongst students and parents, setting it on its way to soaring success.
